Funny thing about passions — they rarely arrive on schedule. More often, they sneak up on you when you’re just having fun, trying something new, or stepping out of your comfort zone. Sometimes you find something you absolutely love. Other times, you find out what’s not for you — which is equally valuable. That’s the beauty of creative discovery: what sounds intimidating (or even a little awful!) might just become your next obsession.
At the HIVE MARKET, we’re creating more than a local marketplace — we’re building a space where creativity and connection come together. We’re partnering with local artists, crafters, and instructors to bring hands-on classes and experiences to the Cheviot community — a place where you can learn, laugh, and maybe discover your next passion.
For me, writing has always been my anchor. But I also love painting, drawing, making soy candles, gardening, and lately, experimenting with web design (still learning!). Each new skill has taught me something — about patience, joy, and the importance of play. And who knows, maybe I can convince my cousin (an incredible crocheter and knitter) to teach a class with me soon!
Beyond the fun, there’s real health value in taking time for yourself. The Blue Zones, those regions where people live the longest and happiest, all share one thing in common: connection and purpose. Hobbies and passions reduce stress, boost mood, and strengthen social bonds. Making space for creativity isn’t indulgent — it’s essential to your mental, emotional, and even physical well-being.
